Dr. Balachandran’s research team has looked into pancreatic cancer survivors, wondering why some patients do much better against pancreatic cancer. Compared with pancreatic tumors from people who had low survival rates, tumors from long-term survivors had nearly 12 times the number of immune cells called T cells inside them.

Recently, the Clinical Research Supervisor of MSK’s HPB Program, Paula Garcia, received the award for outstanding service. Eleven years ago, Paula began working at Memorial Sloan Kettering as a receptionist, and has since contributed to great extents in making this program what it is. Her work for HPB is greatly appreciated and we are proud to call her a member of the team.

Dr. Drebin, the newest member of the MSK surgery team, had recently been announced as the new Chair of the Department of Surgery. We are excited to have him join us and we look forward to seeing his work under MSK.
HPB Team Contributes to Cycle for Survival:
Earlier this year, the Hepatobiliary Research team participated in the annual Memorial Sloan Kettering Cycle for Survival event. Together, ‘Notorious HPB’ raised upwards of $50,000, in addition to having a great time.
