The liver has always been an interest of mine. For the past decade, I have been a staunch advocate for hepatitis B and liver cancer outreach and co-founded Team HBV in 2006 which has steadily grown to over a dozen college chapters. Building on my passion to fight against liver cancer, my current research focuses on both primary and metastatic liver cancers. With the HPB team, we are evaluating novel tools to predict postoperative complications, recurrence and overall survival in these patients. For example, we are studying microRNA dysregulation and targeted genomic profile in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma and colorectal liver metastasis for diagnostic and prognostic purposes. We are also using quantitative image analysis of CT image of liver to predict presence of microvascular invasion and micrometastasis not visible to the naked eyes.
